Our Begining

Blacks United for Youth–Cobb, Inc (BUY-Cobb) was incorporated in 1994 under the former name of Black Men of America-Cobb, Inc.

Starting with the joint vision of three men, Dr. James Fisher, Winston Strickland and Don Johnson, the organization has gone from a small, distinct group to one of over 25 members dedicated to making a difference within the African-American youth population of Cobb County.

BUY-Cobb maintains a membership of professional African-American men representing diverse fields of business and education. Each member brings unique skills and experience to provide a wide range of support and exposure.

The organization has built positive relationships with officials in the school system and the business community. BUY-Cobb continues to foster these relationships to develop and encourage needed support from the community.

Our Mission

Blacks United for Youth-Cobb, Inc. maintains a threefold mission:

Provide mentor programs for young men and women of Cobb County
Provide leadership development programs for young men and women of Cobb County
Provide post-secondary educational scholarships for young men and women of Cobb County

Our Future Goals

Blacks United for Youth-Cobb, Inc continues to expand projects under the three program areas and establish a presence in every high school in Cobb County.

BUY-Cobb plans to move toward one-on-one contact and mentoring with at-risk students and increase leadership program enrollments to reach additional youth.

The ultimate goal remains to become a prototype organization that is modeled and implemented throughout the state and across the country.

Our Commitment

Members of BUY-Cobb are committed to making a positive difference in the lives of African-American youth of Cobb County.

Membership includes men with common qualities of high ethics, concern for others, community support, positive attitude and sincere desire to give back to the community.

Members of BUY-Cobb do not seek recognition but, instead seek support to recognize the unique needs of African-American youth and provide encouragement to help them become contributing citizens and community leaders.

Success to BUY-Cobb comes from the positive differences made.

Blacks United for Youth –Cobb, Inc. is a tax-exempt organization supported by membership dues, fundraisers, grants and donations.
